Donald Trump appeared at the final of the US Open tennis championship, and a mix of cheers and boos could be heard during the live broadcasts.

While the U.S. Tennis Association asked broadcasters to “refrain from showing any disturbances during the President’s presence, in any capacity,” ABC and ESPN did not mute the boos during Sunday’s (7) game coverage.
Although both networks didn’t focus much on Trump during the national anthem right before the men’s final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, they also didn’t attempt to filter the crowd’s reactions at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.
ABC aired the match on television, while ESPN streamed it live on its app. According to The Independent, the boos began due to delays caused by heightened security around the president’s presence, which led to long lines at the stadium entrance.
According to Sky News, organizers said the goal was to “ensure fans had more time to get to their seats.” Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the U.S. Tennis Association assured that “this was not a request from the White House.”
Because of the delay, the arena, with a capacity of 24,000, was only about two-thirds full when the first point was played, while thousands of fans were still outside the court waiting in line to enter.
